Family,
WELCOME TO THE ROSE!

It's almost time for our premium production, Disney's Descendants,
a wickedly spectacular musical based on the popular film!

We've assembled some special information to help you and your family to get ready for the upcoming performance.  Before you go to the show, you might want to take a few moments
to review this "Know Before You Go" Guide so everyone will know what
to expect from the performance!

The Story You Will See

Based on the popular Disney Channel Original Movies, Disney's Descendants: The Musical is a brand-new musical comedy featuring beloved characters and hit songs from the films!

It is present-day, and in the kingdom of Auradon, all of Disney’s beloved heroes and royalty are living happily ever after, safe from the terrifying villains and troublesome sidekicks they have banished to the magic-free Isle of the Lost. That is until Ben, the benevolent teenage son of Belle and King Adam (The Beast), offers a chance of redemption for the troublemaking offspring of the evilest villains. Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos – the children of Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Cruella De Vil, and Jafar – are welcomed to Auradon Prep to attend school with the children of their parents’ sworn enemies. Now entering a completely foreign world and way of life, the four Villain Kids have a difficult choice to make: should they follow in their parents’ wicked footsteps or learn to be good?

At its core, Descendants is a musical about empathy, tolerance, and acceptance. We hope this show can be a reminder that no matter where we come from, we are better together.

  • EVIE— The evil queen Grimhilde’s daughter. Brilliant, but superficial and image-obsessed.

  • JAY—Jafar’s son. Outwardly arrogant, inwardly strategic, and collaborative.

  • CARLOS—Cruella De Vil’s son. Despite a fear of dogs and just about everything else, he has the capacity to be brave and kind.

  • ENSEMBLE—townspeople, students at Auradon Prep, inhabitants of the Isle

    Know Before You Go
Here are some things your family might like to "Know Before You Go":
    • There are a couple of times throughout the show where there are some magical fight moments that could be scary for younger or more sensitive audience members.

    • There are some characters that do things that could be considered objectionable, so you may want to be prepared to discuss what is appropriate with your child. The "EvilS" are, well, evil, and they do some evil things as they are learning to be good in a world that expects them to be evil like their parents. Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos steal from other students, say some mean things to the people around them, vandalize property, and just generally get up to no good.

    • Descendants deals with a lot with the topic of family strife, living up to parent's expectations, and the kids not feeling loved/valued by their parents.

    • You may want to be prepared to discuss some topics that mirror real-world issues that the show brings to light with your children, such as themes of discrimination and segregation between the Evils and the Auradonians. Additionally, the characters explore emotional themes such as fitting in at school, bullying and finding love

      From Story to Stage

          • Nick Blaemire (Book, Lyrics) wrote the score for Glory Days. He has also written the book, music, and lyrics for four more shows including A Little More Alive, Soon, Fallout, and Space Dogs. He has won awards for his acting as Mendel in the National Tour of Falsettos and a Drama Desk Award for his performance of Jonathan in Tick, Tick...Boom!

          • Madeline Smith adapted Descendants, Frozen Jr, and Frozen KIDS for Music Theatre International while playing on several Broadway shows on the piano/keyboard.

          • Matthew Tishler did the orchestrations and produced the music for Descendants and has a specialty in family entertainment for film and television. Over the past 8 years, his songs have been featured in hit TV shows, movies, and on dozens of #1 albums around the world.

          • Based on the Disney Channel Original Movie series of the same name, Descendants aired in 2015 with direction and choreography by Kenny Ortega.

          • All of the characters are related through family lineage to previous fairy tales and Disney movie characters, with the kids of the villains and heroes from the previous Disney movies.
